Laying in bed with Maddie Wednesday night....both just about to drift off.
Maddie: Hey mom?
Mom: Hm.
Maddie: Guess what?
Mom: What Maddie.
Maddie: It's raining outside.
Mom: Sure is, go to sleep dear.
Why do I post an insignificant conversation, because it is just that....a conversation. Maddie while still has her delays or cognitive issues is emerging into a talker with thoughts, questions, and perceptions. She is slowly moving from the child who repeated everything thing you said into the child who can express herself. Typically this happens around 2 so Maddie is not way off the mark. Yeah!
One thing I do ask of friends and family is for patience. I have always been a terrible listener and always on the go. So it has been a big adjustment for me to slow down, ask her questions, and WAIT for her response. When you ask her something you see the little wheels moving and she is thinking of a response and after a few seconds she will provide a response. Or will say huh? (which drives me crazy!!) But please if you ask her a question do not try to answer it for her if you do not get an immediate response. This is of no benefit to her or you. She is really proving to be a smart kid and appears to have a great memory. That cognitive response thing gets in her way. Thanks to all!
